Yes!!! I am so glad to have found your recent tik toks diving into these topics and from a Canadian perspective. Thank you for your explanations and commentary so far and I look forward to whatever you do next!
Definitely interested. Would love to hear expansions on your TikTok topics, propaganda and misinformation especially in the current context.
Love that you recommended the Century of Self. I came upon this a few months back and have watched it several times. Such a great series. Have you seen the Corporation documentary? I think it so accurately predicts what is currently happening in the US and touches on a lot of the same themes.
I’d love to hear you do a podcast on cybersecurity/cyberattacks and how this stuff impacts everyday Canadians on all fronts but especially misinformation/propaganda. Not sure if you read Threat Model by Violet Blue but she does an incredible cybersecurity newsletter. I sometimes find the jargon goes over my head though and think it would be helpful to get cybersecurity knowledge and understanding into the mainstream. I think it would be great to do episodes on how to protect yourself online book attacks of all kinds (and what those attacks are), on what public policy should look like (and why), as well as examples from the past/present. Topics could include what to watch out for online/red flags, what social engineering is/ how it works/how successful it is, the importance of public media in combating disinformation, how to know what to trust and what’s made people distrustful to begin with, how to vet sources, political discussions related to propaganda and dis/misinformation, populism and how it works w/examples, current research and concerns, what everyday Canadians don’t know but should, a breakdown of far-right “news” like Rebel News and Juno News; how podcasts contribute to extremism, populism, and mis/disinformation, the role of tech in today’s political and social landscape (Maria Ressa’s work on this is incredible), what everyday Canadians can do about all of it.
This was an incredible comment and very helpful feedback thank you Athena I am still thinking about how to do this all well but I will certainly use this - thank you!
I would definitely be interested. I would like to be better informed about the topics you covered in your tiktok regarding propaganda dissemination. I'm kind of into a little bit of everything so I am probably not the best to even make a comment! 😂
